HUMMM....

Hum is an unknown entity to many people so i thought i would introduce you to him today.  Hum has been in our lives since Thanksgiving 2009.  Hum sleeps with my daughter, sits with my daughter, dances with her, eats with her, shops with her, and drinks fake tea with her. Hum was brought home as a reward for Kenzie being good all day while being dragged around shopping on black Friday.  We don't leave the house without a Hum.  When Kenzie is scared or happy, she needs Hum.
Hum is a bear.  Hum's name didn't start out as such...he was originally named Rudy, but Kenzie never called him that.  Whenever she would get sad she would just start whining and going hmmmm hmmmmm.  We never knew what she wanted and got very annoyed.  One day her babysitter pointed out that she would say hmmm hmmmm and then go and get her bear.  We then realized that she had named her bear hmm.  We can only assume that it was named that because we would tell her to 'go and get him.'  'Him' became hmmmm, became Hum.  Anyone whose child has ever loved one certain thing knows that said creature always gets dirty, or left behind somewhere, and the following hours or days are pretty awful.  So we got smart, and we went back to Old Navy after Christmas and found more HUMs.  2 more.  We currently have a status of 3 Hums, and an additional bid on one more on ebay.  We have had to go for another one since my son is also in love with Hum and we fear another 4+ years of Hum attachments.

in my un-biased opinion....

these are photos of the most beautiful children on this earth.  Thats a completely and utterly un-biased opinion...really.
its too bad that these kids refuse to look at the camera.  I guess its old news to them...

WOAH!

i love childhood innocence...too bad my kids don't have any.  :)

Louisville

We went out for a baby-free anniversary this weekend.  It's our 7 yr anni so we dropped the babies off with their aunt for the night, saw a movie, ate some dinner, and stayed out late.  The next day we slept in, and then explored downtown louisville..or is it looavuhl, or looeville.... ahhhhh we don't even know!

this delightful beverage was so crisp and refreshing on a 95 degree day!

my first real attempts at some more urban photography...

but before we left the kiddos, dad was able to get in some good snuggles...

he has his daddy's smile!!

pardon the crazy hair on the side...that was bananas.

Strawberry Festival....no excuse me...Trawsbewwy Festival

We went to the local straw, i mean trawsbewwy festival this past weekend.  We met up with some friends and had a great time.  It was super hot outside and close to naptime so we didn't stay too long but as long as we got to eat some strawberries, what else matters?! :)

I'm not sure where Xander learned to give me the bird, or why he was so mad at me, but whatever....

pizza....

Joel and I ventured into making our own pizza tonight.  We wanted to go and grab some pizza but we did have some yeast and flour and cheese and tomatoes so we made it ourselves.  Can i say that it turned out AWESOME!  The crust was perfectly golden and crispy on the bottom and just soft enough in the center, with a mound of hot melty mixture of mozzarella and parmesan on top with a sprinkle of italian seasonings.
This is the gist of what we did...
used a basic pizza crust recipe of the WWW ...flour, olive oil, yeast, sugar, and salt.  We ended up needing a little more flour than our recipe called for but that can be eyeballed for consistency.
We 'cheated' with a jar of pasta sauce...Classico Roasted Garlic.  I put it into a pot and pureed it and added some italian seasonings and 1 clove of fresh garlic.  Let that simmer for about 45 mins.
Once the dough rises once we slapped it onto a piece of parchment paper, and once it was spread thin flipped it onto a flat platter that was coated with cornmeal.  This allowed us to easily slide it onto our pre-heated pizza stone.  Coat the dough with your preferred amount of sauce, then apply any toppings you'd like!  We just kept it simple with mozzarella cheese and some slices of parmesan.  After that we sprinkled on some italian seasoning and popped it into the oven.  We cooked it on the bottom rack of the oven at 450F for 15 mins and it came out perfect.  Half way through the cooking process we brushed some olive oil onto the rising crust to make it golden brown.
It took about an hour from start to finish and was fun to make.  I could see it being even more fun with kids and mini pizzas with their own toppings.

i've been away!

I've been away from my blog but not away from the lens!  I took pictures last week for my MILs Kindergarten class.  She does photos of the kids every year so I offered my lens and services to help her out and maybe make it a little easier.  Of course I can't post any of the pics here since I have no permissions from parents, but it went well.  Taking pictures of 52 children in quick succession was interesting.  Some smiled, some gave goofy smiles, some just stared at me and wouldn't smile! But they came out well and the weather cooperated wonderfully.

Now on to my children.  At Xander's age i basically can't get a good photo of him anymore.  He is so on the move and won't sit still or look at me for anything, and when he does he just crawls towards me so quick that my camera can't even focus on him before he's in my lap!  So Kenzie is the subject of most photos again these days.  She has been having a great time playing outside in her pool and on her swings, and eating cupcakes!

after the kindergarten photos i stopped by my MILs place for some flower photos.  She has some gorgeous blooms going on right now...

call me weird but i love pics of bugs on greenery and flowers...

one of her MANY  stray kitties that she doesn't claim :)

the path that i run over most every time we visit...

Happy 1st Birthday Ms. I!

I did a photo shoot for a friend and her 1 yr old little girl yesterday.  She was SUCH a well behaved baby and just sat still for the longest time!  She was very tolerant of her mommy's creations and outfits as well.  She knew there was going to be cake involved and kept trying to get to it but she was still a trooper!  Happy 1st Birthday Miss I!

such a modest baby!

one of my faves....

is this really for me?....

 yeop!

 she has such gorgeous eyes....
